Brickfield Cottage in Totland, Isle of Wight, is Number One – An end of terrace Victorian cottage in Totland received a unique make-over with new stained-glass panels in their Victorian style panel door. The stained glass involved not only a traditional roundel, pale squares and border pattern but also a bespoke number 1 surrounded in an amber border. The glass used was all hand blown and featured a strong red border with contrasting deep blue roundels. The difference the glass made to the dark lobby was impressive, adding light and colour. In addition, the number can be clearly seen from the street particularly at night when the interior is lit. During the day the beauty of the glass can clearly be seen from the inside. Delighted owners felt that getting stained glass provided a wonderful touch to their Victorian cottage renovation and also helped to identify their house in the terrace.
